I digress.
My Review
I like, literally ran through this book in about two sittings. It is the very heart and soul of un-put-downable. Twists and turns, baddies, action combined with some really useful survival tips makes for a seriously epic read. It is aimed at young adults, but then so are a lot of the books I read.
Oskari is a nearly thirteen year old, who has to undertake a special ritual to enter man-hood, as is the tradition in his village. Using the traditional, ancient bow he has to spend a night in the wilderness and come back triumphant with a trophy that he has hunted and killed. Only then can he call himself a man.
Once his trial has started, he witnesses a series of events that will change his life forever.
A plane crashes on the mountain, and Oskari rescues none other than The President of the United States.
Ahaaa! But the crash was no accident, no no no. Bad guys waving anti air-craft weapons deliberately shot the plane down. And could it be possible that one of the President's own men could have betrayed him? Duh duh duh!! Oskari realises that he is the President's only chance of getting out of there alive and so vows to keep his new friend safe.
Seriously, if I could describe this book in two words? READ IT!
This would also be a fantastic gift for a teenager who's into adventure books.

You might remember that I am a huge fan of who-dunnits. Well I also really like adventures! So this was right up my street.
Anyways, this is also a film starring Samuel L Jackson so naturally I've ordered it. I'll let you know if it's as good as the book.
Have you read this book or seen the film? What good books have you been reading lately?
Oooh, I say!!! This sounds great! I want to read it! My ever growing 'to read' pile (now packed into boxes) mostly comes from charity shops too! I am weak!x
ReplyDeleteWe should totally do a book swap! X
DeleteHi - Hope you don't mind, but I spotted your review and just wanted to say how pleased I am that you enjoyed my book! Reading reviews can be dangerous, but it's always such a pleasure to read a good one! Oh, and being a fellow north-easterner, I didn't think you'd mind if I made a cheeky comment . . .
